FC Goa humiliated Chennaiyin FC in-front of their home crowd with 3-1 win to clinch a semi-final berth in the Indian Super League (ISL). The team coached by legendary Zico now have 21 points from 13 games — just a point less than table toppers Chennaiyin FC‘s and are assured of a place in the semi-final.
Earlier, Kerala Blasters FC did themselves no good after playing a goalless draw against a 10-man NorthEast United FC in a hard-fought game at Delhi.
Mumbai City FC‘s hopes of making it to the ISL 2014 semi-finals are all but over (not mathematically) after they lost 0-2 against FC Pune City in the Maharashtra Derby at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Stadium in Pune.
The visitors had the chance to take the lead but Tiago Ribeiro’s penalty was saved by Arindam Bhattacharya. Dudu Omagbemi netted a brace to ensure Franco Colomba’s side go fourth in the league and remain in the hunt for a top four finish.
Atletico de Kolkata failed in their attempt to go second after playing out the ninth goalless draw against Delhi Dynamos FC on Tuesday. Both sides had chances with Antonio Habas’ men having more opportunities than the home side but both goalkeepers managed to maintain their cleansheet and had to be content with a point.
FC Goa maintained their brilliant form by registering a third victory in a row after a 3-0 mauling of NorthEast United FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa on Monday evening. Zico’s side raced into a two-goal lead in the first-half with Romeo Fernandes firing the 100th goal of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2014 in the 33rd minute before Miroslav Slepicka scored his fifth goal of the season just before the break. Andre Santos sealed all three points by netting the third in the 74th minute.
